Les R. Becker, Ph.D., MS.MEdL, NRP, CHSE, is the Senior Evaluation Scientist for MedStar Health's Institute for Innovation’s Simulation Training & Education Lab (SiTEL) of MedStar Health, where he is responsible for the measurement of learning outcomes. Dr. Becker holds an appointment as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine on the Biomedical Ed Track, Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is an Associate Editor of Medical Education Online and a member of the Editorial Board of Prehospital Emergency Care.
In 1998, Dr. Becker completed his Ph.D. in Evaluation and Analytical Techniques at the University of Maryland Baltimore Graduate School. He has completed a Master’s Degree in Medical Education Leadership (MS.MEdL) from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.
With 20+ years’ experience in the simulation field and in evaluation practice, he also currently coordinates MedStar Health’s ASA MOCA Part 4 program, Co-leads SiTEL’s Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management Course, and supports the MedStar/Georgetown General Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Becker has worked in the injury prevention and substance abuse fields and is the lead author of a cornerstone publication addressing EMS provider ambulance transport injuries and deaths.
Dr. Becker continues to serve as a freelance EMS educator in the Baltimore-Washington Metroplex. An active EMS provider since the early 1980s, Dr. Becker’s tenure in Maryland includes service with the Baltimore City Fire Department and Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department (PGFD), retiring from the latter in 2005. He continues as a volunteer Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider in Calvert County, Md.
